National Advisory Panel Report Multiplies Questions About Math Instruction
The National Mathematics Advisory Panel (NMAP), created by the U.S. Department of Education in 2006 at President Bush’s urging, released its final report last month, which raises more questions than provides answers on the best practices of math instruction.

We have a sysyem wide failure in math education. I have seen competancy in fractions go down steadily for the last 20 years. To correct an entire sysyem you need to make radical and sweeping changes. These would include:
1. Only above average people in ability and knowledge are permitted to teach.
2. Flunking students-the threat should be credible.
