Hello my name is Christopher E. Paster and I am writing you in hopes of gaining information and direction. I viewed the UNCTV BIF program and I was enraptured with the comments made by yourself and the other panelist. It is my hearts desire to attend college and make a difference not only in my life, but mostly in the lives of others. I attentively listened to the dialogue of all the individuals on the Black Economic Impact panel and what I agree with the most is there is an untapped resource in our community. This resource is in the most unlikely place “Prison”. I am what most would consider the most unlikely to succeed in society. I grew up in the inner-city of Detroit, MI and Atlanta, GA, ninth grade dropout, five time convicted felon, marijuana addict, and suffered from PTSD. Regardless of all these challenges I refuse to be just a dash between the date I was born and the date that I die. Given the opportunity the challenges that I’ve encountered can and will make a dramatic impact on others. I recognize that unless you have Dr. in front of your name or PhD. behind it the majority are not interested in your testimony regardless of the hurdles you’ve leaped. Due to the fact that I never registered for Selective Service and I was convicted of a federal drug crime I have been ineligible for government grants and loans. I will have successfully completed my Federal Supervised Release probation by May 2008. If there is any information that you are able to assist me with I will be forever grateful. I currently reside in the Fayetteville, NC area and I am willing to far go any distance if needed to meet face to face.

    Sincerely,
    Christopher E. Paster

I am absolutely delighted that Dr. Malveaux has been named President of Bennett College. The young women of Bennett are very fortunate to have the continued leadership of strong and dynamic women. When Gloria Scott left Bennett, I wondered who would replace her brillance. The glorious answer came in Johnetta Cole. As the whispers got louder that Johnetta was infact saying farewell to Bennett, I couldn’t imagine who would fill the gap. Once again, the sun has cast its spell-binding glow in the face of Julianne Malveaux. To the ladies of Bennett, I join you in welcoming a fine lady, a visionary, a beautiful mind, a leader who will take Bennett into the next chapter. Congratulations Dr. Malveaux.

  3. Yvonne Rideaux Says:

Hello, Dr. Malveaux I enjoyed your comments on C-Span on July 11th, 2008 and the other panel speakers. It was very interesting to hear each one of you perspective on the African-American issues and society as a whole. You and Ms. De-Weever really brought it home by staying focus on what the problems are and how can the problems be addressed. And Ms. Malveaux I admire your courage to diagree and back-up with a solution. It will be refreshing to see all panelist not be afraid to express why they do not agree with a other panelist ideas and not simply agree in the presence and disagaree off camera.–And remain focus of what needs/how to correct whats happening here right now!
