BET Founder Johnson Pitches Minority-friendly Student Loan Product
WASHINGTON, D.C.
Urban Ed Express, the loan company launched last year by BET founder Robert Johnson, promises to not only help students prevented from pursuing a college education because of financial barriers, but to encourage financial literacy in the Black community as a whole, Johnson told an audience at the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators conference on Monday.

Kudos to Robert Johnson and his group ,it is high time students get help to meet their needs on their level. Many student nearing graduation at HBCU are lost because they can’t get enough money to finish. It is not only those individuals that are trying to get in but those that are in trying to stay in. It is great to see somone put money where it is really needed.Keep helping Mr. Johnson!!

The 10.5% interest on my son\\\’s student loan in rediculous. I hope that not only are these loans minority-friendly, but also, I hope the interest rates are friendly.

As for me personally, am so glad that someone has stepped up to the plate to help out minorities with means to pay for education. Coming to America from Africa, where we view America as the land of many opportunities until we get here and find out the real truth, it’s a shocking experience to go through. Especially when all you are trying to get is a great education to support your family overseas and the only thing standing in your way is “money.” Thank you so much Mr. Johnson and I pray that God will continue to use you in ways that will benefit all people.

I really like the fact that someone is interested in the growth of our youth through education.I find it somewhat troubling to see so few comments on such an inspirational article, and thousands of commments on Bossip.com.
Where is the link or extra info on how to apply though????????

This loan program appears to be promising. After reading your article I applied for the Urban Loan. I am minority student that would love to finish college but lacks financial resources. I was flat out turned down. I do not have bad credit, just very little credit history. I do not have a cosigner. I am a responsible adult that needs a chance. I thought the Urban Loan would provide me a chance. I have worked on my job for over two years (dropping out school to work to save money for school). I would love to get an Urban Loan to help me fulfill my goals. If anyone is aware of any alternative loans other than Stafford, please let me know. I don’t want a hand out….just a helping hand.
