Expect More Challenges to Diversity Programs, Says Spelman President
ATLANTA
Spelman College President Beverly Tatum has championed racially diverse relationships for most of her life: as a child growing up in New England, as a young professor teaching about the psychology of racism and as an author writing about cross-racial interaction.

“White students will likely have less school contact with people of color than their predecessors did”
So school “integration” plans are designed for the benefit of White students? I wish people would stop making that argument because it is an outright lie. The purpose of Brown was to allow students to be able to go to their neighborhood school. We over-corrected and went so far as to dictate the racial composition of schools and spend way too much time and money busing kids across town to meet quotas. Should we be surprised that these plans were struck down? Any common-sense evaluation of the non-court ordered plans that were in place would reveal that they clearly were unconstitutional and a burden on tax payers. I am glad that the Supreme Court is finally putting political and personal biases aside to uphold the constitution.

Mr. Hansen\’s comments reveals the burning spirit prevalent in a society which has forsaken the promise of Brown which he apparently has difficulty in interpretation. If he could find honesty in himself, it is the lack of knowledge relative to Blackamericans which justifies Dr. Tatum\’s perception. The respondee talks about common sense but by whose world view perspective? It is quite apparent the respondee should re-educate himself to know the truth from what he describes as an outright lie. The true lie was the promise of the Warren Court regarding the desegregation of unequal schools; he fails to mention how though many of the dominant American experience, Caucasians, have consistently lied to themselves about truth, justice, and freedom for ALL; the truth is the lack of knowledge as demonstrated in the report attributed to the late Public Intellectual, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, was a report whose Introduction spoke truth but his statistical data was somewhat skewed, especially when notation was given in each chapter questions needed be raised; the respondee considers himself knowledgeable but it is very apparent his bias, as those of the Justices, are blind to the truth of the America Dream vs the American Dilemma which has always raised the question what shall Anglo-Saxons and those whom they accepted as their own, e.g., Germans, Irish, Italians, do with the African born in America? Finally, I would like to know what Constitution the first respondent is talking about? Is this the same Constitution which cast doubt on whether the government should be trusted? Is it the same government whose interpretation regarding the value of Africans brought to America were valued less than a person? And by the way, Mr. Hansen who has hidden behind a world view which is quiestionable, and a lie which he considers the truth, and if he doesn\’t believe the Warren Court comprised of all Caucasians liken in political belief as this Court. History has simply repeated itself Mr. Hansen, it has nothing to do with some ephiphany! Oh yes, money was spent to keep Blacks from attending the White Schools nearer to them, and funds was spent to by-pass Black schools so Whites could remain pure. You want someone to be for real - try reading America without your political bias!

Larry, thanks for regurgitating the typical pro-racial preference arguments. The “promise of Brown” was and is that schools would not discriminate against children based on the color of their skin. The constitution I was talking about is the one the Supreme Court bases its decisions on. Since the desegration plans in Louisville and Seattle were struck down by the Supreme Court, it’s safe to say that they were unconstitutional.
It’s interesting that my world view is the one being attacked since it is the one backed by the Supreme Court and the “burning spirit” prevalent in society. Should I “reeducate” myself on issues of equality? I’m quite knowledgeable concerning “civil rights” issues and race-based points of view and have formed my opinion after years of studying the issues and both sides of the argument.
The American Dream is one of equal opportunity not equal outcomes. The American Dream is that every person controls their own destiny and is responsible for their own successes and failures. Every American has the ability to take advantage of the public schools and colleges. Every American has the right to work in the profession and geographic area of their choice. Every American has the right to live free of discrimination. Each group in the US has taken its turn being discriminated against. Currently White Males are the only “non-protected” group making them the legal target for discrimination as conspirators see fit. Only when we stop discriminating based on race will racial discrimination end.
