I’m glad to see someone is focusing on the positive aspects of the African American male instead of the negative. This should be published nationally. Continue to spread the word.

Dr. Harper’s work is not only critical to fostering success among Black males in college. The knowledge generated from this research is also a fundamental component in moving toward positive systemic institutional and social change. We must continue to look beyond discussion of the problems and invest an equal amount of attention in understanding what can and does work in helping those historically underrepresented in higher education succeed. Kudos.

This is a very interesting study. I feel that it is very relevant to what is actually taking place in higher education. It surprises me that the percentage of black males in American institutions is the same today as it was in 1976. What’s very saddening is the fact that over 32 years institutions have not been able to increase that percentage. The question I raise is, “what are we actually doing in higher education for this population”?
