DREAM Act Deferred — Again
Legislation to help illegal immigrant students access higher education suffered another setback in the Senate last week. But the Senate’s top Democrat has pledged an up-or-down vote on the measure by mid-November.

I am an undocumented person that hopes for the passing of the Dream Act.
What worries me is that Senator Reid promised to treat the bill.
When Reid promises something, is time to kiss it goodbye.
Democrats have no interest in stepping forth for the undocumented population at this moment, they prefer to let the anger boil as that can favor them electorally.
As for Reid, he has no sympathy for the undocumented people whatsoever. He let the previous senate compromise be sunk by the Republicans, and he will allow the same to happen now.

Honorable students are raised in the United States and found out in their later years that they are not in America legally.
If the United States saw these decent law abiding immigrants as a problem then these immigrants should have been out of the country already.
Support the DREAM Act. Young promising students of the future CANNOT be equated to criminals. These young people have done no wrong in this country and DESERVE the chance to the DREAM Act.

As a high school counselor in a school with a substantial immigrant population, the failure to pass the DREAM Act is an outrage. These young people should not be forever punished for their parents’ actions. They are our best students and care deeply about getting an education, while most of the “American” kids could care less. They are respectful, hardworking, and would be excellent citizens and contributors to our society. Republicans want to continue to make them criminals.

Illegal immigrants, young or old, have no right to be the recipients of the public’s money. They have the right to be sent back to the country they are citizens of. Not only is it insulting that this act is constantly being pushed by the Democrats, they are tacking it onto legitimate bills that would pass otherwise like the latest war funding bill. If this bill passes, the government will be pushing another burden onto taxpayers that they adamantly oppose.

Wow. The last three comments have brought racist comments on Diverse Podium to a new level. Lloyd Hansen and his white supremacist ilk do not represent the people of the United States.
The truth is, white men like Lloyd do not pay for the rent of any undocumented folks. For those who say that this isn’t about skin color (in this case, Brown), take a look at where Lloyd et al. want to send undocumented people - Mexico. There are undocumented people in the US from all over the world. Why would you send everyone to Mexico? Perhaps it is because you are racist bigot that is targeting Latinos while maintaining the stereotype that anyone who is brown and speaks Spanish must be from Mexico.
The Dream Act would enable kids who have done nothing wrong to go to college and pursue their educational “dreams.”

I am the citizen wife an immigrant who was brought here when he was 3 not of his own will. He found out in his teens that he was here without documentation and has been struggling ever since. He can’t get a decent wage job and has tried to go to school numerous times but has had to leave for financial and document reasons (no financial aid). My husband would give anything to be able to go to back to school. We have begun the process to rectify his situation and it has taken almost a year and thousands of dollars. He now has a visa and nothing else yet. We have been unable to move forward in our own lives because of his situation (getting a house, having children) and we have been married for over 2 years. It would be a wonderful thing if our country stands on the morals that they preach about so much during elections and help those who are here because they could not help themselves. I’m sure if illegal immigrants lined up to help in the war there wouldn’t be any questions asked.

I believe that if the dream act is passed it would be a dream come true for all of those kids that were brought to this country illegaly at a very young age. The U.S is the land of hope and opportunity, and i believe that if you work hard go to school, have no criminal record, you should be given the opportunity to prosper. The DREAM ACT would really benefit a lot of kids that have the potential to give back to their community if given the opportunity to legalize their status and go to school. Please support it.

I am a 21 year old girl who was brought to the US illegally when I was only one year old. Up until middle school I did not know that I did not have proper documentation in this country. All through high school, I earned A’s and B’s in all of my classes. Despite my high overall GPA, I was not able to go to the university of my choice because I could not receive financial aid. Wanting so bad to pursue my education, I went to a junior college where I recently graduated with my A.A in Language Arts and Communication. I really want to continue my education but will have to wait for laws to change in my favor so that I can afford to. I can not even work, my life is really hard right now. I am not from Mexico either..it’s amazing how ignorant American people can be for thinking all immigrants are from Mexico. I am a hardworking girl who have not committed any crimes or done wrong in this country..I just want justice. Yes, I know my mom is in the wrong for bringing me here illegally but I should not suffer nor shall she because she only wanted a better opportunity for me..that’s why she brought me to the US. America preaches about so many things about equality, freedom and opportunity and I have seen none of it. The Dream Act would be a dream come true for me and thousands of others. We are not taking away from this country..we are only adding our knowledge and hard work to do well here. A lot of American people don’t want to do anything here ANYWAYS!!
