Lawmakers hammer federal officials over Jena 6 case
WASHINGTON
Democratic lawmakers denounced federal authorities Tuesday for not intervening in the highly publicized case of six Black high school students charged with the beating of a White student, citing racist noose-hanging incidents far beyond the attack in the small Louisiana town of Jena.

It is utterly ridiculous that federal officials have chosen not to prosecute juveniles for a hate crime. It is these same juveniles who will continue to perpetrate hate crimes (and/or foster racist thoughts and actions) as adults and since they were barely given a slap on the wrist with the suspension from school they will not see the harm they have caused. Perhaps they need to be made an example of for both their fellow juveniles who think it is o.k. to perpetrate hate crimes and for the adults in the community who have taught them to embrace hate.

I would like to know why the school was not held responsible when those nooses where hung on school property and the lunch area was designated for whites only. Schools are federally funded so it was their reponsiblity to report this incident.

Read the actual details of the case and it will all become clear why the initial noose-hanging wasn’t considered a hate crime. The primary reason was that the nooses were meant to be seen by the rodeo team, which one would assume is predominantly white. After meetings, suspensions, psychological evaluations and spending time at a remedial school the boys had both been punished adequately and found to have no racial motivation.
Also, the Jena 6 incident was found to have nothing to do with the nooses and everything to do with a repeat offender and his no good friends. The Sharptons and Jacksons out there don’t want you to know the facts because they only make money when people are outraged.
