Kudos for bringing to light what a great opportunity, and truly life-changing experience, study abroad is for all students, particularly students of color. Lack of funds should not bring dreams for a global education to a halt. Tenacious students can indeed find resources, but we can make it easier for them by supporting increased federal funding for study abroad scholarships such as the Senator Simon Study Abroad Foundation. Let your congressional representatives know we care about global educational opportunities for all!

Study abroad is fantastic opportunity for exposure to a global mindset and preparation for the global workplace that students will encounter when they get into corporate america. Foreign study is a unique qualifier on a resume and separates you from the pack. It also lets employers that are looking for candidates that are willing to move anywhere in the world, know that you are open to mobility. I studied abroad in Paris and I am glad that I did as I have never had the opportunity to have that time to immerse myself in a culture outside of the US since. Also working abroad accelerates your career faster than staying domestic. Everyone should consider it at any point in your career.
