Addressing the Mental Health Ailments Facing Black College Students
BALTIMORE If the walls of Cicely Evans’ office could talk, they would tell of the mental health ailments facing Black college students, including domestic violence, depression, anxiety, stress, unresolved issues of homosexuality and thoughts of suicide.

While doing the standard medical workup, campus health officials notice the Black student is also having difficulty coping with the stress of academics and demonstrates a poor self-image. The health team immediately joins forces with psychological counselors to explore the student’s feelings of loss and confusion stemming from the injury and his subsequent disability.
