Report: Minority Doctoral Recipients Gaining Momentum
Twenty percent of the U.S. citizens awarded research doctorates from American universities in 2006 were ethnic minorities, according to a recent report released by the National Science Foundation in conjunction with the National Opinion Research Center and an assortment of government agencies.

This is hardly an achievement given the degree of preferential treatement minorities receive from the day they are fresmen to the day they graduate. The headline should read “Report: Affirmative Action Programs Helping Minority Students Get PHD’s in Social Work and Other Lesser-Valued Fields.” When this same proportion of students receive degrees in STEM fields without any preferential treatment we will have a cause to celebrate.
