New Jersey became the first Northern state to apologize for slavery, as legislators approved a resolution Monday expressing “profound regret” for the state’s role in the practice.

    If there was atonement per Merkt, why is there ongoing disparate treatment and disparate impact at the hands of those whose privileged status still prevails economically, health and educationally, etc., over those who reparations continue to be denied?
