Campus Anti-Semitism, But Not Racism, Focus of Civil Rights Commission Web Site
A new effort by the federal government to crack down on anti-Semitism against Jewish students on U.S. colleges campuses has some questioning why more isn’t being done to also monitor racist activity directed towards African-American, Hispanic and other racial minority college students.

When it comes to Civil Rights enforcement, the Federal Government has done relatively little to eliminate the demon of racial discrimination. Racism against African Americans is woven into the very fabric of the United States. Until racism is dealt with and eradicated the boot of oppression will continue to be worn by all shades of Americans who take the world lead in perpetuating, enhancing, feeding and upholding racism in America and the rest of the world. As Thurgood Marshall said, ” . . . makes no difference what color the snake, they all bite . . . “.

As a Commissioner, I raised this very point at a previous Commission meeting. The amount of time and money, while laudable, spent on Anti-Semitism should be replicated for all campus-based hate crimes. Perhaps the fact that there are only two Democratic appointees has something to do with it, but I choose not to think that way at this point in time.
