BISMARCK, N.D.

I find the attitude of Mr. Paulsen totally intolerable; he is essentially stating, quite matter of factly, we will take care of you, the people I have appointed know what is best for the Indian population and we will make the right decision.
Why are whites still threatened by the Indian presence? His actions and the fact that noone who is currently on the committee have had the good sense to reprimand his indignant behavior is so reprehensible it is difficult to believe we are actually in the year 2007 and not 1807.
I can only hope that Dr. Gipp continues the fight and continues to bring this type of paternalistic, ego driven drivel to the attention of, not only all those in North Dakota, but all of us in the country.–Melvin

I agree with Melvin’s comments. It seems that the USA and European Americans in authority have always been about, ‘we know what’s best’ for the American Indians and yet look what has been done to push them into a corner and imply that they are not important. I am fairly new to the Red River Valley. I am appalled at the racist actions that are directed at the American Indians. Mr. Gripp, I hope that you can continue to make your voice known on this matter.
