One Response to “Advocates Stunned By Proposed Pell Grant Freeze”

  1. Carlton Oler, Ph.D. Says:

While there is never any exuse for any student in anyway to misrepresent his or her credentials, the the pressure from parents and admission committees to be super students, the belief that one has to to be a 4.0 GPA student to succeed can lead to grade worship and desperate and unethical measures to fit the bill. Not to mention the school officials who financially exploit the desperation of such students.

What’s the solution? There is no easy answer. But if more emphasis was placed on actually “learning” something from elementary school on up instead of “performing” (appearing to have learned something),” perhaps the ranks of grade idolatry would not contiue to swell.
