The Thurgood Marshall College Fund has hired Edith Bartley to oversee the organization’s public policy and government affairs initiatives. The TMCF is a leading advocacy and support organization for public Historically Black Colleges and Universities students.

Bartley joins the TMCF from the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) where she served as the director of government affairs for almost six years — leading and managing UNCF’s government affairs and higher education federal policy work. She also has over 15 years of public policy and advocacy work experience in both the nonprofit and private sectors.

“Edith is the perfect choice to help lead our government relations work here at TMCF,” said TMCF President and CEO Johnny C. Taylor Jr. “Her expertise and advocacy work in public policy and education will be a huge asset in increasing our outreach to influence higher education decisions on issues like the current Parent Plus Loan crisis and other college student assistance programs in danger of congressional bullying.”

Bartley has worked in five congressional offices and served as a congressional speechwriter and legislative aide. After her stint on Capitol Hill, she attended law school at the University of Missouri and as a visiting student at Georgetown Law Center, graduating in 2001. An HBCU alumnus, she received a BA from Hampton University.
