TALLAHASSEE Fla.

An assistant business professor at Florida A&M University was found dead in her home and her husband was critically injured in what police said was an apparent domestic dispute.

Police said Sheryl Shivers-Blackwell, 36, an assistant professor at the School of Business and Industry was found dead Thursday night in her Tallahassee home. Her husband, Baron Blackwell, 43, was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

Police said they don’t think any outside person was involved in whatever happened in the couple’s home Thursday evening, but hadn’t determined the cause of death for Shivers-Blackwell.

Tallahassee police spokesman David McCranie said police were called to the scene Thursday evening by a 911 call they believe was placed by Baron Blackwell.

The couple had two children, a 3-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl, whom police believe were in the house when their mother died.

Police were continuing their investigation Friday and an autopsy was planned for Shivers-Blackwell, McCraine said.
